E-Truancy is a new automated attendance letter generating system that the district has adopted. Schools are required to send letters home to students and parents after they accumulate 3,6,9 or more unexcused absences, either all day or by period. E-Truancy now handles this process automatically. If you have received an attendance letter it is because your child has accumulated 3,6,9 or more unexcused absences.
There are limited types of absences that are considered EXCUSED by the state of Californial. They are as follows:
The following absences are considered excused by the State of California, Board of Education:
- Illness
- Quarantine under county or city health officer
- Medical Services (Doctor, Dentist, etc)
- Funerals of immediate family, not longer than one day in California, no longer than 3 days outside of California
- Jury Duty
- Justifiable personal reasons, including but not limited to: Court appearance, attendance at a funeral, religous holidays, religous retreats, etc. These reasons must be presented in writing and approved by the principal or designated representative.
- Participation in religious instruction or exercises in accordance with district policy.
All other absences are considered unexcused by the State of California, even if a note is brought in stating the absence reason.
Aptos Junior High policy is one that a note or a phone call must be received by the school regardless of the absence reason.
