Intertextual Reference Presentations
Time Requirement:
3:30 to 4 minutes (don't go over 4 minutes or under 3 minutes, 30 seconds)
Content:
Spend time explaining why you think Bradbury selected this particular work to reference and what themes/elements/ideas these two works have in common. Make sure you use language and terminology that are appropriate for your audience. (Read: You've spent the last four weeks reading Merchant of Venice, but they have not. It should be accessible. And mildly interesting. Failing that, bring food.)
Present your analysis of your chosen quotation first (2 minutes), followed by a short synopsis of the ITR (1 minute), and a bit about your author (30-60 seconds). Make sure you keep your focus on Fahrenheit 451 and Bradbury's intention in referencing your selected text. To the extent that it is possible, try to tie everything back to Fahrenheit 451.
Rehearsal:
Please practice this speech often before it is your turn to present. I recommend practicing the complete presentation 10-20 times so that it feels natural to you and you only need to use your notes to keep you from rambling. Harass friends, family members, and your favorite vice principal
by asking them to listen to your presentation and give you feedback. I promise, your practice will show in your final performance and in your final grade.
Required supports:
Your ITR
A copy of Fahrenheit 451 with your chosen quotation bookmarked
Notecards with NOTES ONLY. If you use complete sentences I will take them away from you. (It is a speech, after all: speak to us.)
Optional supports:
A picture of your author
A Venn diagram/T-chart/graphic organizer that visually represents the relationship between your ITR and Fahrenheit 451
Food to share with the class
Think of something that you'd like to include and let me know
