Biography Report information

Here is some information about the report.

 

This biography will be about an American that contributed to the country in some significant way. They could be an inventor, artist, activist, educator, scientist, politician, and any other type of person that has had an impact on the U.S. The goals for this report are to research a significant person in American history during the 19th Century and develop skills in writing a biographical report.

Secondary Sources

You must have a biographical book on your person. The book must come from the school library or a public library.

 

2/13/08

Primary Source

You need to read something written or said by your person. This source should relate to some topic you are covering on the person’s contributions to the U.S. You may also use a primary source that is from someone who knew the person.

Notes and Essential Questions

You need to read your material and while you are doing that you need to be thinking about the essential questions. Each essential question should lead you to the three main facts about your subject. You will take notes on the information that will give examples, explanations, or elaborations on the fact you are writing about. There will be a specific method to taking notes.

Outline Traditional with Roman Numerals

You will write an outline  in the order that you want your paper to flow in. The outline should include the information from each paragraph, from introduction, body, to conclusion.

Topic Sentence and Introduction

 

The topic sentence must be a power statement. The introduction must have at least three facts about the subject. There must be transition words and sentences. The information must be correct. You must use the format shown in class. Your paragraph must be 8-10 sentences in length.

Timeline

The timeline must be neatly written with all relevant information. There must be illustrations that are hand drawn with details and neatly made. The dates and written parts must be neat and clear. You need to put the dates, drawings, and events on a straight line and on blank paper, no lined paper. 

3/5/08

Rough Draft

Your rough draft must have 5-6 complete paragraphs with 8-10 sentences each. You must have one quote as a primary source from the person or someone who knew them.

3/10/08

Illustration

The drawing/ illustration that was already graded; you can also make it up or redo it. The illustration needs to be hand drawn or computer generated, neat, colorful, and detailed, a description, and a title. If a computer is used then the illustration needs to have multiple pictures with some computer generated graphics.

3/18/08

Final Report

Final report must be in report folder as discussed in class. There must be these parts in this order; they must be in pen or typed:

  1. Title page with title of report an image from the Internet or drawn and your name, date, and period.
  2. Outline
  3. Final draft of paper, correct grammar, spelling, and organization with quote, and the graded Rough Draft
  4. Timeline
  5. Illustration
  6. Bibliography
  7. Parent survey
